Liverpool rally back to win Europa League opener

Liverpool rallied from behind to defeat LASK 3-1 in their UEFA Europa League opener on Thursday night.

Deadline Day signing Ryan Gravenberch made his first start for the Reds, who also recalled the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate.

The opening goal fell to the home side in the 14th minute when Florian Flecker found the back of the net with a lovely finish from the edge of the box.

Liverpool remained in control despite falling behind and managed to carve out a good chance Nunesz five minutes later when the Uruguayan got on the end of Elliot's cross, but the striker failed to keep his header on target.

Nunez was frustrated yet again before the break when LASK goalkeeper Tobias Lawal pulled off a superb at point-blank range to keep out the Uruguayan's strike as the hosts went into the break leading.

Liverpool were given a route back into the contest ten minutes into the second half when Phillipp Ziereis brought down Diaz in the box. With Mohamed Salah on the bench, Nunez took responsibility and made no makes from the spot to level matters.

Jurgen Klopp's charges got the second goal just after the hour mark when Gravenberch did well to pick out Diaz with a neat cross and the Colombian converted with a neat finish.

The third goal arrived in the final two minutes of regulation time as Salah found the back of the net eight minutes after his introduction with a neat finish into the bottom corner after some good work by Nunez.
