Members of the committee casted their votes after studying the independent appraisals of each bidder, with Morocco now set to host AFCON 2025 and joint hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania being selected to stage the continental showpiece two years later, as confirmed by Motsepe in a press conference in Cairo.

The bid to host the 2025 event was initially won by Guinea, but in October 2022, CAF decided remove their hosting rights after deeming the country to be insufficiently prepared to stage the competition due to concerns regarding infrastructure and facilities.
Algeria were also in the running to stage the 2025 tournament, but newly elected president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) Walid Sadi made a television appearance in the country on Tuesday announcing their withdrawal from the race.

According to BBC Sport Africa, Sadi insisted that the decision was motivated by a "new approach to the football development strategy in Algeria".
