Nigeria remain winless in WC qualifiers, Bafana remain top

Zimbabwe 1-1 Nigeria

Nigeria's slow start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers continued after a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in Group C on Sunday.

Some renowned personnel started on either side, with Teenage Hadebe, Marshall Munetsi and Tino Kadewere in for Zimbabwe before Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina and Moses Simon featured for the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles' tough run of form continued as they trailed the Warriors at halftime after Walter Musona found the deadlock and left the visitors reeling.

Nigeria were renewed in the second period and claimed the equaliser when Simon played in Kelechi Iheanacho to find the back of the net.

Both nations are still without a win and sit on two points each – having played two draws from their opening two matches in the group.

Mozambique 0-2 Algeria

Algeria grabbed a second straight win to maintain their perfect start in the qualifiers in Group G following a 2-0 victory over Mozambique.

In a stubborn start by the Mambas, the 2019 African champions struggled to get into gear and endured a totally frustrated period from the home team.

Algeria did seize control albeit late in the second half with Fares Chaibi making the breakthrough and breaking the Mambas resistance all together.

The Carthage Eagles continued to hold momentum and duly extended their tally with ten minutes to play through Ramiz Zerrouki and saw them collect all the points.

Burundi 1-2 Gabon

Gabon maintained their perfect start in Group F as two goals in either half led to a 2-1 win over Burundi in Dar-es-Salaam.

Jim Allevinah got the visitors in front in the last ten minutes towards halftime and saw Denis Bouanga increase their tally in the latter stages.

Burundi managed to find a consolation with three minutes to play from the services of Abedi Bigrimana, but the Panthers closed shop to see out the win.
