UPDATE: Club wants Greenwood, date 'set' for talks

A date has now reportedly been set for major talks involving out-on-loan Manchester United star Mason Greenwood and a certain European club.

It has been almost two years since the 22-year-old was arrested on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive behaviour.

That case was dropped in February this year, and the player has since been shipped out to Spanish club Getafe on loan, with it believed he will never play for United again.

His temporary stint in Spain is going relatively well, having registered four goals and three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions so far, including a wonder-strike he scored on the weekend.

This is said to have piqued the interest of a few clubs, while it was reported in October that the Englishman is open to extending his stay with the LALIGA outfit should they look to keep him beyond this campaign.

According to The Athletic, there has now been a huge update regarding Greenwood's future.

The news outlet claims Getafe have decided they will begin talks with United in April 2024 over a permanent signing of the striker.

The Madrid-based club reportedly wants the marksman to enrol for Spanish lessons to accelerate his understanding of the city's language and culture, with an educator said to have already been hired to help him learn Spanish outside of his training and playing responsibilities.

Scouts from a number of Premier League clubs were also said to have been in attendance to watch Greenwood in Getafe's game against Almeria on Saturday, during which the forward scored an emphatic equaliser before his side went on to claim a 2-1 win.
