'Cristiano Ronaldo is nowhere near Lionel Messi's level'

A former English Premier League star shared his thoughts on the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi debate, saying that the former is "nowhere near" the Argentine's level.

Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was on CBS's show In The Mixer when he was asked by host Kate Abdo about one of the Beautiful Game's most debated topics.

After the former Barcelona star lifted the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and won a record-extending eighth Ballon d'Or last month, many are of the opinion that Messi is miles ahead of Ronaldo, and the now pundit seems to be of the same opinion.

Both players have, however, been entangled in an individual battle that captured the attention of the entire footballing since they both burst onto the scene.

Between them, they have won countless individual awards with the Portugal star being right behind Messi on the list of players who have won the most Ballons d'Or with five.

The pair are also the only two players to have scored over 800 goals each in their careers. However, Carragher feels that there is no argument to be made.

"It was never a debate. Ronaldo's nowhere near the level of Messi," said Carragher.

"Ronaldo is one of the greatest goalscorers of all time, Messi is the greatest player of all time, it's not even close. Ronaldo scored goals, Messi scored goals and was an unbelievable player," he added.

While many debate who was or is the better player, both stars have had incredible careers with trophy cabinets that many other professional footballers can only dream of.
