According to Mundo Deportivo, the Brazil international is said to be one of the Catalan giants' top transfer targets as Xavi Hernandez looks to build his squad for the future.
It is believed that Barcelona are still looking for a holding midfielder following the departure of Sergio Busquets and the Newcastle midfielder.
However, Guimaraes recently put pen-to-paper on a new contract until 2028 but Barcelona reportedly still hold him in high regard.
While Barcelona remain cash-strapped, the club would not be able to make typical cash deal and have now come up with a different offer which includes offering up one their players.
Mundo Deportivo added that Barcelona are prepared to include several players as they are big fans of Guimaraes, who is believed to have a £100million release clause.
While Guimaraes remains a top target, Barcelona have also been linked with AS Monaco star Youssouf Fofana and Everton midfielder Amadou Onana for the holding midfield role.
