'It was a big thing for me' - rejuvenated Pule grateful for Pirates gesture

Orlando Pirates winger Vincent Pule has opened up for the first time on signing a new contract with Orlando Pirates in the midst of exit rumours at the start of the season.

Sidelined for most of the season due to injury and with his contract coming to an end, many thought that would be the end of Pule's time with the Sea Robbers.

However, the club announced that the tricky winger had penned a fresh three-year contract with Pirates ahead of the new season, an opportunity Pule has grabbed with both hands, making seven appearances so far this season.

Speaking at a recent Pirates media day, Pule expressed his gratitude to the club for offering a new deal while he recovered from injury.

"It [signing a new contract] very happy moment for me," Pule said to the media.

"I think the club has given me the opportunity to stay here and continue to showcase my talent and I think I'd like to thank them because I was injured at that time and like I said, with everything that happens, you have to stay at the moment.

"I had to make sure that I recovered and make sure that I reward the team as well.

"Like I said you need support from different angles you know, I think my family has supported me from day one since I came to the club since, I started playing football and I think I'd like to thank them as well.

"They gave me the support that I needed and I think it was the most important thing at that time," Pule explained to journalists.

"Staying at the club? I think you know my grandfather used to favour the club and when the team lost no-one was allowed to come home after 19:00, all of us had to be back before 19:00.

"For the club to give me another contract, I think it's a big thing for me you know and I'm happy to stay at the club as well."

Pirates return to DStv Premiership action when the club takes on Lamontville Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Sunday, 17 November.
