Following his 2023 CAF Interclub Player of the Year award win, Percy Tau was the target of celebrations by his Al Ahly teammates during a training session in Saudi Arabia.

The Egyptian giants recently touched down in Jeddah ahead of their clash against Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante's Al Ittihad at the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup on Friday.

The trip to the Middle East comes just a few days after the Bafana Bafana talisman became the first-ever South African to be crowned as the best footballer based in Africa.

The 29-year-old's impressive 2022/23 campaign saw him clinch a continental treble, while he was also pivotal in the club's record-extending 11th CAF Champions League title triumph as he had the most goal involvements with five goals and five assists in 12 matches.

With the Red Devils now having their sights set on the one club competition trophy that has eluded them to date, the team decided to pay a special tribute to Tau and Mahmoud Kahraba, who was also a winner at the awards ceremony in Morocco as he was awarded the Goal of the Season accolade.

During their first training session since touching down in Saudi Arabia on Teusday, the Ahly squad gave the two players what is often referred to as a "tunnel of love", in which Tau and Kahraba had to move through an aisle of players as some of them embraced them and others gae them light-hearted smacks on the head and back.

Here is a look at the scene as it unfolded, as posted on the club's official Facebook account!

This is set to be Tau's third Club World Cup after appearing in the 2017 and 2022 editions for Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly, respectively.

According to Transfermarkt, he has made six appearances in the tournament overall, registering two goals in the process.
