Man City 'ready' to hijack R1.6bn star from Real Madrid

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are now reportedly ready to hijack a R1.6 billion star who looked destined to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Citizens have reportedly set aside €80 million (R1.6 billion) in a bid to lure Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies to the Etihad at the end of this season, while Los Blancos can only fork out €50 million (R1 billion) as both sides prepare to enter a bidding war, according to Fijaches.

It is believed City boss Pep Guardiola is looking to add an explosive option to his backline, with the Canadian being earmarked as the ideal candidate and the Manchester club said to have intensified their efforts to land the defender's signature.

It is claimed the 2022/23 treble winners are willing to break the bank by offering Davies a contract of €15 million (around R304 million) a season.

The LALIGA giants, meanwhile, are said to be capable of offering only a little more than half of what their European rivals are prepared to pay.

Real are reportedly keen to bring in a world-class left-back, but are said to be disadvantaged financially by their desire to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

With Davies' contract at the Bavarians expiring in 2025, the player is believed to be open to a new experience.

He joined the Bundesliga team from Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019 and has since made 179 appearances for Bayern, scoring nine goals and assisting a further 28 strikes.
