The future of Burnley striker Lyle Foster with Bafana Bafana remains uncertain, as SAFA are set to investigate why he has played for his club but was not available for his country.
Foster created a huge controversy prior to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations after he sent a letter to SAFA requesting to be excused from the national team due to medical reasons but was available for the Clarets.
The former Orlando Pirates striker was out of the game for some time with mental health issues and there were hopes that he would travel with Bafana to AFCON after he returned to play competitively for Burnley but he was not made available by his club, with manager Vincent Kompany making it clear that they were following medical advice from the club for Foster not to travel to Ivory Coast.

After announcing his AFCON squad, with the 23-year-old missing, Bafana head coach Hugo Broos said he was also confused with the whole situation of Foster playing competitively for Burnley but could not travel with Bafana to Ivory Coast.
"I also don't understand the situation, it's confusing for me also but this is a medical decision, it's not my decision. I spoke with Kompany for half-an-hour and he explained everything and I couldn't understand," Broos said on SABC Sport after he announced his final AFCON squad.
"Don't forget Foster himself wrote a letter to SAFA that he didn't want to assist the AFCON because of mental problems, that's the story of Lyle Foster," he said.
With the next international window around the corner in March and FIFA World Cup qualifiers resuming in June, SAFA President Danny Jordaan says they still have to investigate the issue of Foster, of how it was possible for him to play for his club and not be available for his country, before he can be selected again.
"Obviously I think if we had Foster, it would have been a good addition to the squad but I don't know the details why it was not possible for him to play for his club and not for his country," Jordaan said on Metro FM Sports.
"And we would have to investigate that, if it is his club or himself, we then have to take a decision (whether he would be selected in future)," he added.
Foster has played seven matches for Burnley since he returned from his mental condition.
