Broos: People can see why I'm proud of this team

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos reserved some special praise for the players after securing the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The South Africans secured the first medal since the 2000 tournament after defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo on penalties.

It was a third successive penalty shoot-out for the 1996 winners, with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams pulling out another decisive save in sudden death.

Broos had nothing but praise for the players especially after their last two matches ended in a penalty shoot-out.

"I said after Nigeria match that I was proud of this team, and I think today people can see why I say I am proud of this team," Broos said, as per CAF website/

"We were not fresh but when you see the mentality in that group, it is impressive," said the delighted coach.

"The boys did very well. They showed great mentality. They tried to do what I asked, and I understand that it was difficult.

"It shows that we if we have problems, we can count on those who are on the bench. I was satisfied with players on the pitch, but I was even more satisfied with those on the bench.

"They were encouraging them and pushing them. From this, you know that you have 23 guys who want one thing and that is winning" concluded the coach.
