REWIND: When the PSG boss decided to conquer Mzansi!

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique is all too familiar with South Africa having conquered one of Mzansi's most grueling locations. Here's a look!

The story

The Spanish coach remains with a huge task on his hands, as he has been entrusted with inspiring PSG to an elusive UEFA Champions League title, a trophy that the club has been gunning for with no success.

Prior to taking his current job, Enrique was in South Africa for a mountain biking tour in the Western Cape, which seemingly gave him the energy to get back to the touchline after spending just over six-months unemployed following his resignation from the Spain job at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 53-year-old is an avid cyclist and participated in the ABSA Cape Epic, where he completed three stages of the physically grueling and mentally demanding competition.

According to the event's official website, the Cape Epic is the most-televised mountain bike event in the world and comprises professional and amateur bikers, and it may be fair to assume that Enrique forms part of the latter given that he is a football manager by trade.

Last year's event took place in the rocky terrain of Elgin in the Western Cape Overberg region. The trail is said to be "home to some of South Africa's most celebrated mountain biking terrain, combined with our cool climate, it offers riders near perfect conditions," according to Oak Valley MTB.

It is not entirely a surprise that Enrique would take on such an exhausting challenge, as he has shown to be a body wellness enthusiast. In his spare time, the former FC Barcelona boss is often seen working hard in the gym ensuring that he remains in good shape.

After he completed the mountain bike race and received his medal, the Spaniard seemed overwhelmed with joy, as he passionately wrote on his Instagram: "No one takes this away from me! [I am] very pleased!"
