With no official update by Strasbourg on Lebo Mothiba's injury, the Bafana Bafana star is among a list of high-profile African stars who will be out of contract at the end of June.
Lebo Mothiba - Strasbourg
The South African star has not played a game since sustaining a patellar tendon rupture in December 2023, during a game against FC Lorient. Worryingly, there has been no official word from the club when he can be expected to return, which raises serious questions about his future as his contract is due to expire at the end of June. The Johannesburg-born marksman joined the French outfit from Lille in June 2018, in a deal worth a reported €4 million (R79 million), according to GetFrenchFootballNews. Reports linking him with a transfer elsewhere have been few and far between, although there were reports that ESTAC Troyes, the club he was loaned to last season, did consider making that move permanent. Mothiba has 20 goals in 96 appearances for Strasbourg, per Transfermarkt.

Wilfred Ndidi - Leicester City
The Nigeria international could leave Leicester City in the coming weeks as his contract is now drawing to a close. There has been a growing amount of rumours around where he goes next, and last week, the defensive midfielder admitted he is inclined to try a new challenge elsewhere despite the Foxes securing promotion to the 2024/25 Premier League. Commenting on his future last week, Ndidi said: "If a good opportunity arises, I wouldn't mind trying my luck elsewhere, but for now, I remain a Leicester City player. It is good to be back in the Premier League after being relegated. Struggling back to the EPL is something we don't want to experience again."

Mohamed Elneny - Arsenal
The Egypt star confirmed his impending exit from Arsenal last week, which will bring an end to an eight-and-a-half-year association with the London club. "Gooners, I'm here today to send you a message, to say goodbye and thank you for everything you've done for me," Elneny said in a heartfelt video addressed to Arsenal fans on his X account. With 161 appearances for the English giants, the African playmaker was the longest-serving player in the current first team squad. It is now unclear where he will be heading next, although Arab newspaper Mansheet claims Al Ahly are considering a move for him and that the club's qualification for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup could pique his interest.
Sofyan Amrabat - Manchester United (on loan from Fiorentina)
The Morocco international has had an underwhelming season at Old Trafford, having joined United on loan from parent club Fiorentina. According to various reports, the Red Devils have decided they will not sign him on a permanent deal, and the player will therefore return to Italy, where his contract is also expiring soon. It has since been suggested that Serie A giants AC Milan are keen on signing the 27-year-old as a free agent next term. Furthermore, The Sun claims that both Fulham and Crystal Palace are monitoring his situation too.
Joel Matip - Liverpool
The German-born Cameroonian announced his departure from Liverpool recently. The latest reports suggest that two English clubs are now vying for the defender's services, including a side in the Premier League. According to The Sun, Bournemouth and Southampton are the two teams hoping to sign Matip, but the latter side's pursuit of him will depend on them winning the Premier League promotion play-off against Leeds United on Sunday.
