Golden Boot winner itching for topflight return

The man waiting to be crowned winner of the Golden Boot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Prince Nxumalo, is keen to return to the elite division next season having rediscovered his goal-scoring touch with JDR Stars.

Nxumalo is the top scorer in the second tier for the 2023/24 season after bagging an incredible 18 goals for the side that eventually finished fifth.

The former SuperSport United marksman finished three goals better than Black Leopards man Bethuel Muzeu, who finished the campaign with 15 goals next to his name.

Casric Stars striker Decide Chauke finished in third position on the scoring stakes having netted 14 goals.

Nxumalo confirmed that his contract with JDR Stars is coming to an end in June, while emphasizing that he has not yet made a decision about his future.

"I am happy to have finished as Top Goalscorer. I would have been happier if JDR won the promotion. It's about the team first before the individual award.

"Credit to the technical team and my teammates for the support.

"It was because of their support that I managed to score 18 goals this season," Nxumalo tells KickOff.com.

Asked about his future plans and where he will be reporting for pre-season, the ex-Ajax Cape Town man was cagey in his response.

"I am home and relaxing for the off-season. My contract with JDR is coming to an end next month. I am not yet sure about my future in football. I still want to play football at the highest level.

"My job is to score goals. I am sure given the opportunity again next season, I will score more goals," he says.
