Rulani praises TS Galaxy coach

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has reserved a little bit of special praise for Sead Ramovic after the German mentor helped his team finish in the Top Eight of the DStv Premiership this season.

Galaxy finished in sixth place on the log to qualify for next season's MTN8.

The Rockets were unlucky to lose in the Carling Knockout final after being beaten 5-4 on penalties by Stellenbosch FC in Durban last December.

The two sides are expected to meet again in the MTN8 quarter-finals in August.

Mokwena has been nominated for the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award alongside Steve Barker and Jose Riveiro, from Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates respectively.

"I am just nominated because I coach very good players and I am just humbled to be in that space. If you look at the work that my colleagues have done, they deserve also s lot of credit," shared Mokwena.

"The work that Steve Barker is doing is incredible. The work he has done with Stellies is something that has been built over years and they have been stable.

"Apart from him, I like Jose so much. I do. Every time I meet him, I get a genuine sense of respect. Like, a genuine sense of sportsmanship. He is a fierce competitor, but he is a good person and I think people like Ernst Middendorp have done a great job since he arrived. If you look at the table since he [Riveiro] took over, it's incredible," added the Downs coach.

Mokwena then, perhaps against expectations considering their very public fall-out, lavished praised on Ramovic.

"The TS Galaxy coach has done a good job with that team too. The team has improved, and some of the players have gotten better. If you look at it even from a competitive sense, 'Kanu' (Vusimuzi Vilakazi) at Richards Bay how has got the team to every game [be] getting better. Musa Nyatama at Moroka Swallows, I watch Swallows a lot and I  enjoy watching Swallows play football.

"These are some of my colleagues that deserve to be nominated. That humbles me and that gives me space to appreciate my players even more."

The 37-year-old will hope to win his second domestic trophy when Sundowns take on Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
