Rulani: My biggest disappointment with Lorch

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Thembinkosi Lorch could be facing the riot act on two fronts at the club after head coach Rulani Mokwena expressed his views on the player's viral partying video.

Lorch went on Instagram live showing his partying with two women in his embrace, celebrating his first DStv Premiership title after Sundowns' ceremonial crowning for their seventh consecutive title.

This after their last game of the season against Cape Town City on Saturday.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker seems to have attracted negative publicity not long following his alleged misdemeanors at the Soweto giants.

The 30-year-old was suspended by Pirates in December last year after he was found guilty during his well-publicized gender-based violence case.

Following his viral video, Lorch called Mokwena to express his regret and the 37-year-old tactician seemed to suggest that he knows what the star is going through having spent time with him at Bucs.

"He phoned me and he was in tears and that broke me for sure because I'm close to my players and when my players cry and are emotional, I cry and feel their pain too. That's how close I am with them. I don't want to talk too much about the issue, except to say that I'm extremely disappointed, because I said that to him on the phone," Mokwena said on Metro FM Sports.

"My biggest disappointment is the going live. (But) I've seen far too many players go through what Lorch is going through in South African football. No one can tell me this is the first time we see a player that is struggling with substance abuse and alcohol abuse and all these things, we've seen it before. So, what are we doing as a nation, as the people responsible for the talent that is coming up within the confines of this country?"

Mokwena, however, could not confirm whether Lorch is struggling with substance abuse.

"I can't answer that [whether Lorch has a substance abuse problem] because I have to speak to Lorch first and he has to hear my feelings about the incident and how I view the incident in its entirety, and that involves what I know from the past, having spent time with him at my previous club, at Pirates. And that discussion, unfortunately, is not for public consumption."

Lorch is not only in trouble with Mokwena but could also be facing the music of having broken the club's code of conduct, almost six months after joining The Brazilians.
