The big Lorch question answered...

With the midfielder allegedly in hot water over a recent controversial video, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has issued an update on the availability of Thembinkosi Lorch for the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates.

Lorch found himself in hot water when a live video posted on his personal Instagram Live in what appeared to be an intoxicated state, in the company of two women, sparked a huge backlash.

Speaking to media at the pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's clash against Lorch' former side, Mokwena confirmed that the 30-year-old would not be available for selection.

"On Lorch, is he available for Saturday? No, he is not available," Mokwena told journalist on Thursday.

"And with these types of things, and I say this to you guys all the time, when it comes to players you'll get no negative word from me. I always protect my players in the media.

"In a space where I'm open and honest with them, is when I close my office and I have a face-to-face conversation with them.

"So, you are not going to hear anything about Lorch from me today."

Probed further on the reasons behind Lorch's absence, Mokwena added: "He is injured, he has been removed from the group…

"He got injured against Stellies and may have to undergo surgery. So, his season may be over."

Sundowns will be aiming to unseat the Nedbank Cup defending champions when the two teams meet on Saturday at Mbombela Stadium.
