The Secret Footballer: My Downs teammates pushed me out

KickOff readers, the popular segment called The Secret Footballer is back on your favourite football website, and this week our mysterious man reveals how he was badly treated by his teammates at Mamelodi Sundowns during his time there.

The retired fan-favourite says he never experienced love from his former teammates at almost all the teams he played for in the '90s.

"I have many enemies in the local game. In fact, I have never experienced love from my teammates in all the clubs I have played for. I am talking about my entire football career here," says the Secret Footballer.

"I was more successful than all my teammates in my whole football career because I used to work so hard. I was just unfortunate not to have someone who would grab me by my hand and help my career grow.

"So, my teammates were jealous of me because I was playing for my national team and at the same time I was educated. My teammates were jealous of me because I was the coach's favourite - I'm talking about big-name players here who didn't like me," he continues.

Furthermore, the Secret Footballer says he would have stayed longer at the Chloorkop-based club were it not for these shenanigans, as alleged by him.

"My teammates were the ones who forced me out of Mamelodi Sundowns, otherwise I would have stayed longer. My teammates at Sundowns made sure I left the club. They were the ones who forced me out.

"Nobody liked me in that team, I was something of a black sheep in that squad.

"In any work environment, if you are doing well, your colleagues will be jealous of you. Only your bosses will be impressed by you.

"Our coach would walk into the dressing room and my name would be the first in the starting line-up, and that didn't sit well with my teammates.

"Sometimes I would be in a better scoring position and I would not be given the ball. Sometimes I would score a goal and only one of my teammates would come and celebrate with me."
