'So far, no deal' - Moroka Swallows on sale?

Moroka Swallows could be in the hands of new owners following word going around in the corridors of South African football that a Gauteng-based consortium has made an offer to purchase the club for next season.

Swallows finished the season in 14th place, escaping the play-offs spot by the skin of their teeth, having struggled with a lot of problems both on and off the field throughout the campaign.

The Dube Birds were fined R1 million by the PSL and further forfeited six points after missing two DStv Premiership matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December last year.

This is after their players engaged in a strike due to unpaid salaries.

The Soweto giants later fired all the players who participated in the strike, only to reinstate a number of them after smoking the peace pipe in efforts to salvage a battered and bruised season.

Swallows finished the season with Musa Nyatama as head coach after letting Steve Komphela go in January.

According to sources close to the club, the hierarchy met with the prospective buyer on Tuesday in a bid to sell their top-flight status during the off-season.

"Swallows could be sold. There was a meeting yesterday with the business people that want to buy the club next season," said a source.

Efforts by this publication to get hold of Swallows chairman David Mogashoa proved futile yesterday after several attempts via calls and text messages yielded no results.

Meanwhile, the club's lawyer, Leruma Thobejane, sounded cagey when asked about the proposed sale of the club next season.

"Who told you that? But so far, no deal has been concluded, but once there is a sale and has been concluded, I am more than welcome to give you the details.

"But so far, no deal has been concluded," Thobejane tells KickOff.
