Rulani camp respond to contract details in court

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena's agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, has responded to his client's contract details revealed in court in the club's litigation case with MT Sports Marketing and Management.

Mokwena's contract details with Sundowns became public knowledge on Monday after Pitso Mosimane's agency, MT Sports Marketing and Management, through their lawyers, subpoenaed the contract of the 37-year-old and that of senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi with the club, to the South Gauteng High Court.

At the centre of the lawsuit by Sundowns against Mosimane at the High Court, is the demand to pay back a portion of the agency fees amounting to around R8,6 million, which were paid to MT Sports in advance.

The claim is breach of contract.

The Tshwane giants are litigating that Mosimane's contract had a claw-back clause which stated that his agency would have to pay back part of the agency fees paid in advance should the 59-year-old not honour a four-year deal signed in May 2020. The ex-Bafana Bafana coach joined Al Ahly four months after signing the contract extension.

Although MT Sports do not dispute breach of contract, they have argued before the High Court that the claw-back clause on Mosimane's contract is discriminatory, as such a clause is not contained in the legal agreements between the club and Mokwena and Mngqithi's representatives, namely Kapeluschnik of JDR Consulting and Mike Makaab of ProSport International.

To prove their claims, MT Sports subpoenaed the contracts of Mokwena and Mngqithi to court and, as revealed by SABC Sport, the financial details of the agreements were presented to court and, as a consequence, revealed to the media and then the public.

KickOff reached out to Kapeluschnik to get his stance after his legal and financial agreements with the club on behalf of Mokwena were brought to court.

"You know what, I don't even know what that is all about, I don't even know [whether] what they are saying is correct. I haven't looked at it, I'm not getting involved in it," Kapeluschnik responded.

"It has nothing to do with me, they [MT Sports Marketing and Management] must do their thing and that's it. Honestly, I'm just not getting involved, that's what I've decided," he insisted.

KickOff sought comment from Makaab, who could not be reached by the time of publishing.
