Latest on Ramovic v Rulani court case

With the dust settled on TS Galaxy pressing legal charges against Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena, KickOff sought an update on the matter.

Galaxy took Mokwena to the High Court over comments he made in his post-match interview in April, following The Brazilians' 3-0 win over the Rockets.

Mokwena alleged that Galaxy head coach Sead Ramovic instructed his players to injure Bongani Zungu as a revenge, so to speak, after Zungu's tackle on Bernard Parker early in the season in the Carling Knockout, was so horrific that it threatened Parker's career.

The 37-year-old coach's comments came on the back of an injury suffered by Zungu in a league match in April, shortly after coming on in the dying minutes.

The Mpumalanga-based side initially sent a letter to Mokwena requesting an apology, but after not receiving it, they approached the High Court with summons served to the former Orlando Pirates coach claiming reputational damage to both the club and Ramovic.

As things stand, Galaxy are still waiting on the High Court on a court date.

"Ourselves we're waiting," Head of Communications at Galaxy Ronny Moyo told this website when queried.

"There's a case number, they normally issue a case number when they've recorded it, so we're waiting for the date of which the court will advise on when are we meeting and we'll take it from there," Moyo said.

In addition to demanding R1 million for reputational damage, the Rockets also demand Sundowns to make an apology in videographic and written formats, with such apology published on all prominent media platforms.

"The impugning statements comprise untrue and defamatory statements pertaining to the Club and is indeed per se defamatory of the Club, its players, Head Coach, technical team, players, staff and management as well as its supporters," a document sent to Sundowns and Mokwena read in part, as per SABC Sport.

"In the circumstances, we are instructed to demand, as we hereby do, that Mr. Mokwena and, by extension, Sundowns immediately retract the impugning statements, and publish an unconditional, prominent and appropriate public apology (in the terms agreed to by the Club) in both videographic and written forms, which should be prominently published on all prominent football social and other media platforms (including that of Sundowns), be it print and/or electronic."
