OFFICIAL: CAF confirms dates for AFCON 2025

CAF has now officially announced the long-awaited dates for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

With the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup also taking place next year, there have been many questions aimed at both FIFA and CAF over the scheduling of the next AFCON.

Following the CAF Executive Committee Meeting on Friday afternoon, African football's organising body has now revealed the new dates for the men's AFCON next year.

The Confédération Africaine de Football ("CAF") Executive Committee ("EXCO") today announced the dates of Africa's most popular and competitive football competition, the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations ("AFCON") which will take place in Morocco.

The dates of the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 are:

Opening Match: Sunday 21 December 2025

The decision on the final dates comes after CAF president Patrice Motsepe engaged with FIFA and various football confederations and associations in recent weeks.

"Motsepe has, for the last couple of weeks and on a daily basis, engaging a number of stakeholders, as this question of the calendar is not a simple one – it's a headache for CAF," CAF head of TV and communications, Luxolo September, said, according to SABC Sport.

"Everyone probably thinks we are just aren't doing anything about it, but I know our president is actively involved, talking to FIFA, UEFA, the European Club Association.

"And I think for the first time, by the way, CAF has a direct line to the ECA, UEFA, FIFA, and all stakeholders, as well as FIFPro, whom CAF have been engaging, and this is probably a first in African football – where the leadership has open engagement."
