EXCLUSIVE: ‘It was too much for me to remain at Chiefs’

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has come out to speak about what led to his exit at Kaizer Chiefs despite a season of decent returns.

Bimenyimana found himself being pushed out at the end of his first season at Chiefs, where he scored eight goals in 21 appearances across all competition.

Though the Burundian was the top scorer in the league with seven goals, his season was just as good as over with eight league games remaining after falling out with Arthur Zwane while playing with injury discomforts.

The 26-year-old had six goals in his opening seven matches before playing a single full shift in the other 15 games that he then played through which he only added another two goals.

"People don't know the truth about what happened at Chiefs, but they will know it one day," Bimenyimana tells KickOff in the first interview that he has done since he left Chiefs in June 2023.

"But then I will give you some of the details.

"I had already made the decision as far back as April (2023) that I will be leaving Chiefs because of all that had happened to me while I was there.

"Too many things happened to me while I was there because of someone there.

"This is professional football and there is no need for someone to do that.

"I came to Chiefs to score goals and I did it, but I was made to be not comfortable by someone.

"Chiefs is a good club with a lot of people that I respect from the kitchen staff to the chairman, but I was put through a not-so-good experience by someone.

"The truth about what happened at Chiefs is known by me and this someone.

"I scored eight goals for Chiefs, but so many things were happening through a season which was better than the one the club had after I left.

"It was too much for me to remain at Chiefs, so it was better that I move on for the sake of my mental health.

"A lot of bulls#@t was said about me because this is what happens when someone wants to sabotage you.

"I was expected to run like Ashley Du Preez yet that wasn't what my game is about.

"After all is said and done, I wish to see Chiefs coming back because I remain a fan of the club," says Bimenyimana.
