Greenwood 'gets closer' to United exit

Manchester United star Mason Greenwood is reportedly getting closer to exiting Old Trafford permanently.

Despite the attacker's impressive loan spell at Getafe, where he amassed 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, the player is set to depart Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old was sent out on loan after charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm against him were dropped, with the club deciding that he would relaunch his career outside of Manchester.

Now that his time in Spain has come to an end, it appears there is still no future for him at the Red Devils.

Reports suggest that Greenwood reported to Carrington for the first day of pre-season but did not join his teammates for training.

Instead, he was said to have been at the club's training ground to hold talks with the Manchester-based side's officials.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille submitted an official bid in an attempt to secure the player's services on Monday.

It is believed that United are open to allowing the forward to join Les Phoceens on loan, but there will be an obligation for the French side to purchase the player upon its expiration.

It has also been claimed that talks are underway between the two sides, with the Premier League giants are set to include a considerable sell-on clause in the deal.

"It could be even up to 40/50% of the future sale, clubs are in talks about that." the journalist wrote on X.

Greenwood is reportedly among eight United players the side are looking to offload ahead of the 2024/25 campaign in order to fund new signings.

The list is said to include Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, Donny van de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Facundo Pellistri and Scott McTominay.
