'Best coach ever' Rulani gets high praise from new peers

Rulani Mokwena seems to have received nothing but love since arriving in Morocco earlier this month.

The South African tactician was unveiled as the three-time CAF Champions League-winning side's new manager earlier this month, and has been greeted with many smiles, admiration and words of praise.

Speaking for the first time as the club's new coach, the 37-year-old said that he appreciates the way the club has interacted with him even prior to him putting pen to paper.

"I think there was a bit of surprise, particularly with regards to how quickly Wydad showed interest in my services.

"First, is dealing with the unexpected call. But also, there is a lot of humility and appreciation for how much Wydad showed in relation to how eager they were to have me on board and how excited they were to have me as one of the head coaches."

He added: "All the love I have received, all the support that I have been given  – we hope that we could repay [it] back to the Wydad faithful."

Given the public response from people in and around the club, that certainty seems to be the case, with the the side's head coach of the women's team Oumaima Essahely taking to social media to describe Mokwena as the "best coach ever".

Mokwena and his side will jet off to Turkey for some pre-season activity on July 29, with it being said that the team will begin training on Tuesday.
