Malesela: I haven't signed with Gallants

Popular but unfortunate Dan "Dance" Malesela has responded to news that he is replacing Dylan Kerr at Marumo Gallants FC as a head coach.

In an unexpected turn of events, the Englishman resigned from his post after the Abram Sello-owned club asked him to work as a co-coach.

Kerr has left the side barely three weeks after being unveiled in a press conference as the man to lead them in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Like was the case with Kerr, Malesela is joining Gallants, who will be playing their home games in Bloemfontein, for the third time now.

Gallants recently acquired the top-tier status of Moroka Swallows.

According to the club's statement, Kerr resigned following disagreements with the management team regarding the co-coaching structure and other management processes.

Speaking exclusively to KickOff, and breaking his silence for the first time since the club released the statement about his return, Malesela said he has not yet signed with Gallants.

"We are not done talking yet, I have to meet the chairman on Wednesday," Malesela explains.

"I don't understand [why the announcement was made], but at this stage, I cannot comment on anything because I have not finished talking to the chairman, you know.

"I must conclude our negotiations with the chairman tomorrow [Wednesday]. Maybe it's because of the agreement in principle that the club released the statement.

"I don't know [if Kerr didn't want to be a co-coach], what I know is that we just agreed in principle with the club about me taking over, it's just for us ironing out certain things. I must see what I'm getting myself into.

"Happy with the contract. We have to agree on anything else like the technical team and everybody at the club; I need to know who I'm working with and all that.

"I need to see the chairman tomorrow, and then we can finalize."

Malesela's last team was Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC, whom he left unceremoniously after qualifying them for the PSL relegation/promotion play-offs.
