De Gea finally finds new club after 13 months without a team?

After spending the entire 2023/24 campaign without a club, former Manchester United star David de Gea may finally be set to join a new team.

The Spaniard became a free agent when he parted ways with Manchester United upon the expiration of his contract in July 2023, and has been out of professional action ever since.

The shot-stopper was said to have recently been in talks with Serie A side Genoa, but that move is believed to have broken down.

The 33-year-old then became a target for fellow Italian side Fiorentina, but those discussions were brought to a halt due to the Spanish international's wage demands, according to Football Espana

Now, however, it is claimed the two parties will re-enter negotiations in the coming days, with the 'keeper thought to favour a move to Florence despite having offers from multiple other clubs.

La Viola are said to have assessed the possibilities of signing Sassuolo shot-stopper Stefano Turati, Atalanta No. 1 Juan Musso, and Juventus star Wojciech Szczesny, but are now "seriously evaluating" a move for De Gea.

It has been suggested that the former Atletico Madrid star – who was said to be earning £375 000 (around R8.9 million) a week during his time at United – will have to lower his wage demands in order to make the move happen.

Reports suggest that De Gea is looking to secure a two-year deal that would see him earn €2.5 million (R51 million) per season, excluding bonuses.

During his time at the Red Devils, the keeper made 545 appearances, keeping 190 clean sheets and helping the side win one Premier League title, one UEFA Europa League trophy, an FA Cup, and two League Cups.
