Vilakazi's future had been hanging in the air for some time since his surprise exit from Richards Bay just a weeks after he had penned a new long-term deal.
The 41-year-old takes over from Andile Cele who has served as interim head coach since the exit of Reneilwe Letsholonyane in January.

Vilakazi brings plenty of experience to the role, having previously served as reserve team head coach, having spent as many as five seasons in the same role at rivals Lamontville Golden Arrows.
He would later be promoted to first team assistant coach, before being head co-coach alongside Mabhuti Khanyeza.
