Latest on Cupido amid hot interest from Stellies

Following Cape Town Spurs striker Ashley Cupido's links with Stellenbosch, KickOff has the latest on the 23-year-old's current situation.

Stellies are in the market for a striker after they concluded a deal to transfer Iqraam Rayners to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Subsequently, the Cape Winelands outfit are reported to have identified Cupido as a potential replacement.

The 23-year-old was linked with Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2023/24 season, after finishing as a top goal-scorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 15 goals.

The hard-running forward had also attracted interest from overseas.

Despite posting a return of 8 goal contributions for Spurs in all competitions last season in the Betway Premiership, it was not enough to help the Mother City side to escape relegation after they finished bottom of the log.

As a result, top players at Spurs are in demand in the Premiership, as Kaizer Chiefs have already signed highly-rated centre-back Rushwin Dortley.

Chiefs are also in a transfer bid for Asanele Velebayi while the likes of Chumani Butsaka are also subject of interest from teams such as Stellies.

KickOff can reveal that Steve Barker's charges have submitted an offer for the services of Cupido

According to a reliable source close to the negotiations, the 23-year-old is waiting for Spurs to make a decision.

Stellies are believed to have bagged a rumoured 10 million for transferring Rayners to the Tshwane giants and now have the luxury to acquire a replacement after the Bafana Bafana striker's transfer to Saudi Arabia outfit Abha fell through in the 11th hour in January this year after the Cape Winelands outfit could not get someone to fill the 28-year-old' shoes before the transfer window slammed shut.
