Rulani's Wydad to hijack Ahly deal for Euro-based star?

Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club are now reportedly looking to hijack Al Ahly's potential transfer for a Europe-based star.

The Moroccan outfit has entered into negotiations with Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois with the aim of signing their former player Achraf Dari, according to El Botola.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Ahly in recent days, with the 12-time CAF Champions League winners said to be looking at bringing the defender in as a possible replacement for Mohamed Abdelmonem, who is said to be close to joining Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice.

Furthermore, Dari's father, Zohauir, recently confirmed that his son is in the process of negotiating a deal with the Marcel Koller-led side.

European clubs Espanyol and RSC Anderlecht also said to be interested in the player.

Now, though, it is claimed Wydad, whom he played for as a youth player and first-teamer until July 2022, are also in the race for the centre-back's services.

The Botola Pro 1 outfit are thought to have the upper hand, too, with it reported that Dari told the French club that Mokwena's side is his preferred destination.

The player is believed to be unhappy with life in France at the moment, with his father attributing his discontent to "religious reasons".

The defender came up through the Red Castle's youth ranks and went on to become a part of the team that defeated Ahly in the 2021/22 CAF Champions League final, prior to making his move to Europe, joining Belgian side Royal Charleroi before moving on to Brest.
