2022 WC star 'makes decision' on Wydad offer

One of Morocco's star players from their historic 2022 FIFA World Cup run has reportedly made a decision regarding joining the Rulani Mokwena-led Wydad Athletic Club.

During the latest global spectacle in Qatar, the north African giants made history when they became the first-ever African nation to reach the semi-finals of football's biggest tournament

A player who contributed heavily to that success was midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.

His performances in the Gulf earned him a move to French giants Olympique Marseille in the following transfer window, but things have not gone according to plan for him at the Orange Velodrome since the start of the 2024/25 season.

The 24-year-old has not been included in any of Roberto De Zerbi's matchday squads to begin the new Ligue 1 season, and it seems the Red Castle were eager to take advantage of that situation by attempting to lure the attacking midfielder back to his hometown.

According to winwin, Wydad president Hicham Ait Menna contacted Marseille's technical advisor Medhi Benatia to explain the club's readiness to submit an offer for Ounahi.

However, it is understood that after the former central defender took the proposition to the Morocco international, the playmaker rejected it, insisting he would prefer to continue his career in Europe.

The record Moroccan champions have been active in the transfer window with regards to incomings, and it seems Ounahi is the latest they want to add to that list.

According to Kooora, while he has turned down Wydad's initial advance, Menna is set to try once again to acquire his services.
