Chippa approach Chiefs for out-of-favour star

KickOff can reveal that Chippa United have made inquiries about the availability of midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa from Kaizer Chiefs.

Mthethwa was set to join AmaZulu FC a few weeks ago.

Still, the move failed to materialise after Usuthu declined the Soweto giants' offer to sign defender Riaan Hanamub as part of a swap deal.

The former Stellenbosch FC man does not appear to be part of coach Nasreddine Nabi's plans for the upcoming season, which gets underway on Saturday.

Chiefs have already signed Njabulo Blom from MLS side St. Louis City in an effort to bolster their midfield in what is set to be an important season for them.

Blom is expected to partner with Yusuf Maart as Amakhosi look forward to reviving their glory days where they were known as the cup kings of South African football.

According to a source close to Chippa, the club has already submitted an official offer to the Glamour Boys for the services of Mthethwa.

"AmaZulu were interested but wanted Hanamub as part of a swap deal. Chippa have expressed their interest and are still waiting for Chiefs to come back to them," revealed the source.

According to SABC Sport, the Chilli Boys are also closing in on midfielder Siphelo Baloni from Orlando Pirates.

Chippa visit the Buccaneers for their opening Betway Premiership fixture of the season at Orlando Stadium next Wednesday.
