Bafana star finishes as his club's top scorer abroad

South African star Bongokuhle Hlongwane has now finished the 2024 Major League Soccer regular season as Minnesota United top goal scorer. Here's a look!

The story

It has been yet another brilliant season for Hlongwane on a individual front, as he is currently enjoying the highest scoring campaign of his professional career.

In 32 matches in the MLS this season, Hlongwane has scored 11 goals, making him the Minnesota's most prolific star in 2024.

Additionally, he has contributed a further four assists in the process, taking his overall tally to 15 goal contributions, according to Transfermarkt.

In the 2023 MLS season, he only managed to score eight goals, marking a sizeable improvement in his third season with The Loons.

Minnesota finished sixth on the MLS Western Conference, earning themselves a spot in the competition's play-off stage.

Hlongwane's side is now set to take on Real Salt Lake in the play-offs, with the sides set to play three matches against each other on 30 October as well as on 3 and 9 November 2024.

The attacker looks like a worthy contender of the club's player of the season.

Perhaps surprisingly, he has outscored the club's main striker Teemu Pukki despite the Bafana Bafana star being only a wide forward player.

Pukki, meanwhile, arrived at the club last year on hufge expectations after leading the line for several seasons at English second-tier side Norwich City.
