Chiefs star advised to follow Downs' Rayners

Retired striker and current football analyst Phumudzo Manenzhe has revealed has handed advice to Kaizer Chiefs attacker Ashley Du Preez regarding what he needs to learn from his former teammate Iqraam Rayners.

Amakhosi could only walk away with a draw in a game they were fortunate not to lose against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Monday.

They will be disappointed withe the result, as they had multiple opportunities to score and collect all three points.

Perhaps the best chance of the match fell the way of Du Preez, whose unchecked run behind the defence left him one-on-one with goalkeeper Ira Tapé.

However, the speedy attacker fluffed his lines and narrowly missed the target.

Reviewing the match on SuperSport TV, Manenzhe recommended that Du Preez take some notes from Rayners, who scored the winner for Sundowns in a CAF Champions League group stage encounter against Raja Casablanca on Sunday.

"I think as a coach, you also need to be happy and content if your team is creating opportunities," said the former Orlando Pirates man of Chiefs' fortunes.

"I was watching the game thinking, you know, with Du Preez on the field, you are guaranteed that there will be goal-scoring opportunities.

"You are guaranteed that defenders will be turned and they will face their own goal. It's just a matter of maybe teaching him a new way to slow down.

"I've seen with Rayners at Sundowns now, he has got this new technique of how he slows down before making a connection with the ball.

"Maybe Du Preez needs to learn that whenever I'm coming from such a high speed, I need to calm myself, slow down, pick up my head, look at the goalkeeper and still get the ball on target," he explained.
