Chiefs duo fire All Stars to Carling Cup triumph

The All Stars XI won the Carling Cup for the second year in a row after defeating Magesi FC 3-0 at Orlando Stadium.

Sipho Chaine, Ashley Du Preez, Samkelo Zwane, Bathusi Aubaas and Relebohile Mofokeng highlighted the eleven by All-Star, whereas Magesi rolled the big guns in notably Elvis Chipezeze and Edmore Chirambadare.

All-Star aimed a fast approach and were rewarded on ten minutes as Zwane thread a pass through the lines for Naledi Hlongwane to beat the offside trap and finished comfortably.

Having assisted the opener, Zwane got in on the act ahead of the half-hour mark after finding the near corner with a first-time shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Magesi's torrid afternoon continued as the inability to clear their lines from a corner led Hlongwane to come a little bit short to collect a loose pass to bag his brace.

The league's new boys were close to reduce the deficit just inside the break with key men Chirambadare in-behind, but he was denied by the upright.

All-Stars named a double substitution at the break, as Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch came on for Aubaas with Patrick Maswanganyi introduced as well.

Magesi, who still looked to put up a contest showed a bit of energy in the forward patterns in the hope to get in-behind unfortunately didn't trouble their counterparts.

However, All-Star maintained overall momentum despite the slight up-turn by the knockouts champions as Chaine got down to deny Wonderboy Makhubu.

All-Star attempted a fourth with time running out when Lorch launched from way out of the box though Chipezeze got behind to palm onto the woodwork and away.

In the end, the make-shift outfit emerged resounding victors and clinched the cup for the second year running over the knockout champions.
