Al Ahly join race to sign ex-Man City star?

It is now reported that Al Ahly are interested in signing a former Manchester City star.

Reports in Egypt suggest that Al Ahly are keen to make reinforcements in the current transfer window, with claims that the team are exploring the possibility of bringing in another foreign player.

This comes amidst speculation that the Red Devils have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of South African star Percy Tau, although nothing official has been confirmed.

According to the UK Daily Express, Al Ahly are interested in signing ex-City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigeria international has struggled to find his feet at Sevilla since joining the club on a free transfer in July 2024.

The 29-year-old has only played 581 minutes of football for the Spanish outfit across all competitions so far, according to Transfermarkt.

Iheanacho, who was once considered the next big star to emerge from Nigeria during his time at Manchester City, has only scored three goals for Sevilla to date. Those in charge at the Spanish club are reportedly eager to offload him in the current transfer window.

It seems that Al Ahly face competition for Iheanacho, as English second-tier side Watford FC are also reportedly trying to sign him on loan until the end of the season.

Moreover, Sevilla are said to be close to completing a deal for a new number nine, with Football España claiming that the Spanish side have reached an agreement with Qarabag for the signing of Juninho Vieira. The deal is reportedly worth €4 million (R77.2 million), with an additional €1 million (R19.3 million) in variables.
