SuperSport crossing fingers on Nurkovic

SuperSport United striker Samir Nurkovic is racing against time to have his South African permanent residency permit sorted out in time for the Betway Premiership match against Sekhukhune United in Tshwane on Sunday.

Nurkovic signed with SuperSport before the end of 2024 after leaving TS Galaxy.

The 32-year-old's debut with Matsatsantsa has been delayed due to the issue of permanent residency after spending five years in South Africa.

The Serbian arrived in the country in 2019 and made his name with Kaizer Chiefs, before signing with Royal AM.

He then moved to join TS Galaxy during the 2023/24 season after his stay with the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit was cut short due to contractual issues.

Despite signing with SuperSport in November last year, Nurkovic could not be registered with the club after they exhausted their foreign quota.

"The issue has been his papers. The club was also hoping that Gamphani (Lungu) would also receive his South African papers last year to allow Nurkovic to be registered as a foreigner," explains a source.

"His papers should be sorted out in time for the match against Sekhukhune United on Sunday."

The Tshwane outfit have been struggling up front and only relying on Bradley Grobler, who only returned from injury recently, for goals.

Striker Nasir Abubeker has been struggling with injuries since joining on loan from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this season.
