Rulani loses service of yet another star

Rulani Mokwena has lost out on the service of another star during the January transfer window, with the player confirming his departure from Wydad Athletic Club.

Oussama Mahrous became the fifth player to depart the Red Castle this month to join Bahraini top-flight side Al-Muharraq SC.

The 29-year-old joins M'Baye Niang, Mohamed Ounajem, Chouaib Faidi, and Taha Mourid on the club's list of recent departures.

This comes after he initially joined the Moroccan outfit in January 2023. The central midfielder has since, according to Transfermarkt, made 19 appearances for the side.

Mahrous took to social media to announce his departure, stating: "A beautiful chapter of my football life ended today with me leaving Wydad Athletic Club after a short trip but it meant a lot to me."

"I challenged difficulties, and enjoyed the best times when I wore the shirt of the sweatiest club in Morocco with its history, titles, large and loyal fans, and which stood by my side in the most difficult circumstances.

"I had the honor of playing alongside great players and benefited from their advice, today I am leaving my second family. I had to offer more, but it is a year of life," he added.

The Red Castle also seem to be experiencing some on the coaching front, with it being reported that Moroccan coach Youssef Achami has left his position as assistant coach at Hassania Union Sport Agadir.

According to Akhbar Kora, he is set to be appointed as Mokwena's assistant at Wydad as the side look to prepare and strengthen for the second half of the season.

The coach is also familiar with the environment at the club as he has previously been employed by them, working in the various technical teams led by former coaches Faouzi Benzarti, Abdelhadi Sektioui and Zoran Manojlovic.
