Will Morris relieve Chiefs of poor recruitments past?

Tashreeq Morris made an encouraging debut for Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday as he became the latest of a long list of strikers that the club has brought in since they last won silverware a decade ago.

Like all those that come before him, Nasreddine Nabi is in need of goals, which traditionally come from the number nine.

Nabi has brought in Morris with the hope that he provides the solution to a position which has proven problematic for the club in the period stretching through the 10 years since they last won a trophy.

Morris provided the energy and bite against AmaZulu FC but will need much more than that to become a success throughout his contract duration at Naturena.

While the bearded striker has it all to prove and justify his signing, of concern is how Chiefs have not gotten the desired results from their top men since they won the league in 2014.

Just last season, it turned disastrous with Efmamjjasond Gonzalez as the Colombian came and left without even one goal.

Ranga Chivaviro hasn't been convincing at all in proving that he can be a reliable source of goals with only nine to his name since he arrived at the beginning of last season.

Congolese forward Christian Saile Basomboli came with a reputation of banging goals from his time in Zambia but didn't live up to expectations in that key department.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana had a fair share of goals despite evidently not having the quality to lead the attack at Chiefs.

For all his pace and threat, Ashley Du Preez misses more than he scores and needs to improve on his finishing to avoid being classified as having failed.

The less said about Lazarous Kambole, the better, while Samir Nurkovic only scored goals in his first season before fizzling out in the next two.

Khama Billiat has always had and still has the football intelligence, but his time upfront at Amakhosi wasn't the best of his abilities even though he had 53 goal contributions in 126 appearances.

His big contract at the club and injuries left him as an easy target for criticism.

Emmanuel Letlotlo only showed promise, while Michelle Katsvairo and David Zulu failed to even meet the minimal expectations.

Leonardo Castro came established yet left having delivered little.

The long list of strikers that Chiefs have also brought in with no success since their last silverware also includes Ryan Moon, Gustavo Paez, Lewis Macha, Camaldine Abraw, Bongani Ndulula, Edward Manqele, and Nicholas Mynhardt.
