Chiefs handed defensive boost ahead of Downs clash

Kaizer Chiefs have been handed a boost with the return to action of a key player ahead of a mouth-watering encounter against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi are putting in the final preparations for what promises to be an exciting clash against log leaders Sundowns at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

At stake is a precious three points that would see the Soweto giants possibly jump as high as the fifth spot on the Betway Premiership table.

Nasreddine Nabi - who has been haunted by the dilemma of a lack of a natural left-back - will be pleased to have experienced defender Edmilson Dove back in contention for the encounter.

The Mozambican international has not played a single minute of competitive action this season, after suffering an injury during Chiefs' pre-season training camp in Turkey.

He was subsequently not registered in the squad for the first part of the season.

However, the club has now confirmed that the dreadlocked player is now registered and ready to help solve what has been a problem position for the side.

"It hasn't been an easy journey, but by the grace of God, I am running again. I want to thank the doctors and express my gratitude to the Club for all the resources that were put at my disposal to help me recover as soon as possible.

"I also deeply appreciate the support from my teammates and the technical staff. It has really helped me a lot," said Dove, as per the club's website.

In Sundowns, Chiefs meet a side that has lost only two from their 19 matches so far this season and already 15 points clear at the top.

However, Chiefs, also desperately need the points to validate their push for a top-four finish.

"These are the types of games each and every player wants to be involved in," Dove added.

"There is no need for any extra motivation. We are all excited. You can see it in the eyes of our players and the work they are putting in this week."

The match is scheduled to kick off at 15:30.
