Manchester United and Real Sociedad played to a 1-1 draw in their UEFA Europa League last 16 first leg on Thursday night.
Partick Dorgu, Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro returned to the Red Devils after the FA Cup loss to Fulham, with Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen and Manuel Ugarte dropping out.
This fixture capped off a busy week for the home side, who come into the clash on the back of two successive losses to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
Both sides saw a bit of the ball in the opening exchanges of the first half but clear-cut chances were hard to come by, with the team being restricted to efforts from distance.
While Sociedad struggled to carve out chances, the visitors were unlucky not to have got the breakthrough after 36 minutes as Bruno Fernandes strike was blocked on the line while Joshua Zirkzee fired wide from the rebound.
Ruben Amorim's men would go on to break the deadlock 11 minutes into the second half when Zirkzee got his first goal of the competition with a first-time finish on the edge of the box after being set up by Garnacho.
Sociedad were afforded a lifeline in the 69th minute when Fernandes was deemed to have handled the ball in the box, handing the hosts a penalty, which Mikel Oyarzabal calmly dispatched from 12 yards out.
The home side had a big chance to complete the turnaround in the final five minutes but substitute Orri Oskarsson horribly scuffed his shot in the six-yard area after being set up by Sheraldo Becker.
