JUST IN: AmaZulu announce exit, former Downs coach arrives

Just weeks after the shock departure of co-head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi, AmaZulu FC have announced yet another coaching exit, with a former Mamelodi Sundowns man coming in.

Goalkeeping coach Aubrey Vilakazi has tendered his resignation and leaves the club with immediate effect, according to a statement released by AmaZulu on Wednesday morning.

"AmaZulu Football Club has accepted the resignation of Goalkeeper Coach Aubrey Vilakazi, who is stepping down with immediate effect due to personal reasons," the statement reads.

"Vilakazi was promoted to first-team goalkeeper coach last year after previously serving with the Reserve Team. The club expresses its gratitude for his dedication and contributions during his tenure and wishes him success in his future endeavors."

Former Sundowns goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson takes over the role. 

"Following his (Vilakazi) departure, the club has appointed Wendell Robinson as the new Goalkeeper Coach. Robinson brings extensive experience to the role, having previously worked with Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African National Team," the statement added.

The news comes comes on the back of some major changes at the Durban-based outfit, with co-coach Vilakazi also having left after submitting his resignation in February to tend to 'personal reasons', as per club boss Sandile Zungu at the time.

Usuthu have endured a frustrating season in the rearguard, with 28 goals conceded - the second-highest amount of goals let in by a single club in the Betway Premiership this season.

Only Marumo Gallants have conceded more (31).

Robinson joins the club with an impressive reputation having worked also been a top goalkeeper for Moroka Swallows in his heyday, and will be expected to help close the leaks at the back.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu return to action on on Friday night when they host an in-form TS Galaxy side at King Zwelithini Stadium.
