Siwahla: I believe he is better than me

An ex-PSL star who gained countrywide acclaim after making his professional debut at 15 believes Kaizer Chiefs star Mfundo Vilakazi is better than he ever was.

Vilakazi is establishing himself into a Khosi Nation darling following his impressive displays whenever given the opportunity by Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

He has scored netted goals in his 23 appearances so far this season, providing one assist. He has mostly come in as a substitute.

Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, who emerged on the professional football scene back in 2004 with Ajax Cape Town, famously netting in an Absa Cup match against Dynamos aged 15 years and 174 days old, is as impressed as the fans.

"I think he is one of the future stars," declares the Nyanga East-born lad in a conversation with KickOff.com.

"However, I cannot say he reminds me of myself because our generations are not the same, but I believe he is better than me.

"The fact that he is doing well at a club like Kaizer Chiefs says it all. He does reminds me of the younger me. All I wanted was to play football.

"He makes us interested in Chiefs. He must just be grounded and stay there at Chiefs (for) as long as possible.

"I just wish Chiefs provide him with things like getting his mother a house and everything that might improve his family's life," he adds.

Siwahla also advises that the former DStv Diski Challenge star shouldn't entertain any thought of leaving the club.

"He shouldn't leave Chiefs because that's a big team with the biggest support base in the country. You can be whoever you wanna be at Kaizer Chiefs.

"So, whoever is managing him mustn't take him out of Kaizer Chiefs. I believe he will be a Chiefs legend. It's all in his hands now.

"He must just be aware of wrong friends. Wrong friends might be your fellow footballers who will show you places you have never been to."

Vilakazi was on target as the Glamour Boys beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1 in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
