The long-awaited trial of medical staff who treated Diego Maradona has started with the prosecutors alleging that Diego Maradona's death was due to negligence and could have been avoided.
A court in Argentina has commenced its trial on Tuesday for seven doctors accused of negligence in the 2020 death of former football superstar Diego Maradona.
The Argentine football legend passed aways at the age of 60 in November 2020 due to a heart attack after undergoing brain surgery.
Maradona's then healthcare team has now been brought on trial in Argentina for alleged homicide due to negligence, facing potential sentences of up to 25 years in prison. According to the prosecution, Maradona's team allegedly failed to provide enough medical care.

Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari has reportedly showed an image of the former football star lying in the bed where he was discovered dead. He believes that the doctors were reckless when handling Maradona's situation.
''Look, this is how Maradona died,'' Ferrari told the court, as reported by Mail Online.
''Whoever tells you, the judges, that they did not notice what was happening to Diego is lying to your face. The whole gang was only interested in completing records and forms to prove they had done what they weren't doing.
''The medical team treating him, as well as those responsible for this failed and reckless hospitalization, must be held jointly responsible for the death of Diego Maradona,'' he added.
''It was a reckless, deficient, unprecedented home hospitalization.''
