African giants want to host 2034 FIFA WC matches

African nation Egypt has requested to host some of the games for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which is mainly set to be held in Saudi Arabia.

The prestigious global football competition is returning to the Middle Eastern country after it was held in Qatar in 2022, where Argentina emerged triumphantly.

Speaking at the 14th CAF extraordinary general assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, president of the Egyptian Football Association Hany Abo Rida disclosed that the North African nation has sought the opportunity to share hosting duties for the 2034 World Cup.

''Saudi Arabia will stand up and organise a historic edition of the World Cup, and we wish our Saudi brothers every success,'' Rida said according to Soccermag.

''But at the same time we hope that (FIFA president) Mr. (Gianni) Infantino will grant us, as Africans and Egyptians, the honour of hosting and organising one of the World Cup groups in 2034.''

If Egypt will ultimately be given the rights to host the elite global football tournament, they would become the third African nation ever to host the World Cup, following South Africa in 2010 and Morocco, which is set to co-host the 2030 edition alongside Spain and Portugal.
