‘Perfect opportunity for Ribeiro to leave Sundowns’

Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa has been encouraged to leave Mamelodi Sundowns with the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup an ideal platform to put himself on the global window.

Ribeiro Costa is in his second year at Sundowns, and such has been his quality that he is miles ahead of all the competition in this league.

Twenty-seven goal contributions to date throughout this campaign have been an improvement from 25 last season.

"His numbers are good and has won trophies in South Africa, so I think it will make sense for him to leave," says fellow Brazilian and former Moroka Swallows defender Vinicius da Silva, talking to KickOff.com from Sao Paulo.

"Now that he is going to be playing at Club World Cup, that is a perfect opportunity for him to put himself out there and leave Sundowns.

"If he is that good, then he should be able to compete at the Club World Cup level and convince the world that he is not only good in South Africa.

"The truth is that if he puts in a good showing at the Club World Cup, then he will move back to Europe.

"Look, this is football, maybe once he is back in Europe and doing what he is doing at Sundowns, then six months later he might be noticed here in Brazil.

"Football is about making use of the opportunities that you get.

"If he is as good as you guys say he is, then he must leave South Africa and go to Europe.

"To play in (the) Brazil national team, you should be in the top leagues in Brazil regardless of how amazing you are in South Africa.

"I know the money at Sundowns compares well to clubs outside the top five leagues in Europe, but he needs to show ambition.

"Ribeiro is not playing in a top league.

"I played in South Africa and enjoyed it, but we all know that it is not one of the best leagues in the world.

"We all know that the top leagues are in Europe.

"Otherwise, he could just play in South Africa, and only be known by his family and friends here in Brazil, which is a complicated country when it comes to football," says Da Silva.
