Bafana new recruit banking on continental experience

Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane is among the new faces looking to leave a strong impression on head coach Hugo Broos as Bafana Bafana prepare to take on Lesotho.

South Africa have set up camp in Polokwane ahead of the first of two FIFA World Cup qualifiers, against Lesotho, set to take place at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday (18:00).

The other, against Benin, will be on Tuesday away in Ivory Coast.

Of particular note is that in his final 23-man squad, Broos has roped in a couple of new faces, among them Moloisane, who has been one of the standout players for Stellenbosch this season, with three COSAFA Cup caps under his belt.

Speaking to media ahead of what could be his first appearance in the Belgian's national outfit, the 26-year-old said he is banking on his experience of continental football in the CAF Confederation Cup.

"It's very important going to the national team having had experience of playing in the continent. So, you get to have a taste of what is required to play at this level [international]," Moloisane told journalists at the pre-match press conference.

"You also have a proper judgement of what is expected from you. There are a lot of challenges playing on the continent.

"So, to add on that, I think it fairly gives me a chance to be properly prepared for the international stage," he added.

Other new faces to the set-up include Vuyo Letlapa, who replaced Aubrey Modiba, and Ndamulele Maphangule, who has come in for injured Orlando Pirates star Patrick Maswanganyi.
