Ex-Pirates & Chiefs stars facing axe at Sekhukhune?

The futures of elder statesmen from Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs appear to be uncertain at Sekhukhune United after the arrival of new head coach Eric Tinkler.

Tinkler recently replaced Lehlohonolo Seema at Sekhukhune and with the side in fifth place and the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.

The former Cape Town City tactician already has an eye on building for next season after signing a three-year contract.

The veteran campaigners in the roster, such as Linda Mntambo, Daniel Cardoso, and Thabang Monare face an uncertain future, with the new man in charge admitting the squad is ageing.

"We've got a lot of experienced players. The club brought in that experience in terms of Cardoso, Linda Mntambo, the Monare. These players have achieved big things and have literally stabilised the club in the PSL," Tinkler said on 947's MSW.

"Those players have been key figures and have been extremely valuable to the club for the past two seasons.

"We do have an ageing squad, if I must be honest, players a lot of them I've spoken about... (Badra Ali) Sangare, (Lloyd) Kazapua, Linda, Monare, Danny (Cardoso). There are number of players that are ageing and for the club next season, we have to start looking obviously to build and make the team even stronger," he added.

It remains to be seen if Tinkler will also bring changes to the loan policy at the club, with the likes of Katlego Otladisa from Orlando Pirates and Sipho Mbule from Mamelodi Sundowns only at the side until the end of the campaign.

Sekhukhune are just one point behind third-placed Stellenbosch FC on the Betway Premiership standings as they bid to return to the CAF Confederation Cup.
