Downs hailed as biggest club in Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns' push for an eighth consecutive league title has been boosted by praise from within the PSL, after being termed the biggest team in Africa.

Sundowns walloped Galaxy 4-1 in a Betway Premiership match played in Tshwane over the weekend.

Goals were through Peter Shalulile, Jayden Adams, and Iqraam Rayners (brace) as the defending champions extended their lead atop the table to 12 points.

The victory came as sweet revenge for the Chloorkop-based side, who were humbled 1-0 by the Rockets during the first-round match between the two a fortnight ago.

Adnan Beganovic, at the helm of Galaxy, regards the three points collected in that encounter in Nelspruit as the biggest achievement of the current season for his charges.

"You know when you have to plan and have a schedule for games and you see (you're playing against) Sundowns after 10 days and then you account, you talk to yourself and say: 'Ja, if you take some points against Sundowns than other teams, (it will be an achievement) and you can get three points in two games against Sundowns, I can be so happy'," said Beganovic.

"I am so happy because you can't account and be sure to win against Sundowns. It's a big team, they are at different levels from everyone, including every club in the league. It's different, trust me... with quality, with the coach, staff, and everyone.

"Sundowns is one biggest club in the whole of Africa and I am so happy to have the opportunity to play against Sundowns and be part of this beautiful spectacle. Also, during the last game when we won in Mbombela, I said this was the best feeling in our last 13 games, to beat the best club in Africa. I am so happy and I am thankful for that," he went on.

The Brazilians visit Sekhukhune United for their next league match in Polokwane on Wednesday.
