Spy work on Pirates for R22 million purse

Orlando Pirates will unknowingly find themselves having Algerian champions MC Alger zooming towards their every move on the pitch ahead of the two clubs' CAF Champions League quarterfinal.

Pirates travel to Algiers for the first leg on April 1 and then play the second leg at Orlando on April 8, with the winners guaranteed of USD1,2 million (approx. R22 million).

This is the prizemoney on offer for reaching the semi-finals.

The winner of that match then meets either AS FAR (Morocco) or Pyramids (Egypt) in the semi-finals.

For now, the Soweto giants will find themselves being stripped naked by MC Alger, who will be seeking to devise the appropriate strategies.

After the opening of their new training base in Zeralda, Algiers on Thursda,  this website was then informed about how keen the club is in getting past the Soweto giants.

The Algerians feel they stand a good chance and are employing all spy and analytic avenues to dig deep into Bucs.

MC Alger have taken notes of how Pirates came to Algiers and took all three points from CR Belouizdad in November during the group stage, before also winning at Orlando.

Though Jose Riveiro's men will play five matches against Marumo Gallants, Chippa United, SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, and Mamelodi Sundowns before the two clubs meet, MC Alger already have eyes and ears on their opponents.

An advance party is expected in the stands for the Pirates v Sundowns game on March 15, which will then pave way for the FIFA calendar break.

The international break will give the Algerian club's analysis team time to then exclusively work on all the material that they will have compiled on the men in Black and White.

Pirates have won four, drawn three and lost only once against Algerian opposition through their history in CAF Inter Club competitions.

They have met CRB, USM Alger, ES Setif, and JS Saoura.

Just like Pirates (1995), MC Alger have only been kings of the continent only once before (1976).

They have veteran Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia as head coach.
